I have to feel something about a subject to paint it, so my paintings are connected with experiences. It often takes a while for ideas to percolate & then to revise & refine them. I am not consciously focused on technique, but I am fascinated by how artists I admire physically apply paint. I am attracted to the concept of ‘connections’, because it is a way to help us understand the world. I have explored feelings of uncertainty & certainty, light & shade, admiration & fear, stillness & motion etc…. Perhaps it is because I have lived in different countries, including England, Venezuela, Japan & Switzerland, that I have experienced how adapting to different cultural perspectives can create uncertainty, which leads to curiosity & stimulates creative thought.
